Overgrown with vines and roots and nested upon by small animals, the robot sat inert, seemingly unaware of the passing of time. It lay dormant, exposed to the elements and rusting while nature slowly reclaimed it. One unique Bastion unit, severely damaged in the final battles of the war, was left forgotten for over a decade. To this day, Bastion units still symbolize the horrors of the conflict. Following the resolution of the crisis, nearly all of them were destroyed or disassembled. But during the Omnic Crisis, they were turned against their human makers, forming the bulk of the omnics' rebel army. Originally created for peacekeeping purposes, Bastion robot units possessed the unique ability to rapidly reconfigure themselves into an assault-cannon mode. Ganymede makes a sound that seems similar to that of a Kookaburra.Once a frontline combatant in the devastating Omnic Crisis, this curious Bastion unit now explores the world, fascinated by nature but wary of a fearful humanity. Woodbot or Antique (Woodpecker) make less musical chirping sounds.Omnic Crisis (Cardinal) makes a quieter version of a real Cardinal's chirps.Defense Matrix (Bluejay) makes a quieter version of a real Bluejay's chirps.Classic (Ganymede) makes musical chirps.Ganymede's chirping sounds change depending his species, which is associated with the Bastion skin being used.Ganymede's species changes with certain Bastion skins equipped.Ganymede's sex is confirmed to be male with the release of his plushie.Ganymede appears in LEGO Overwatch as part of the Omnic Crisis Bastion set.Ganymede appears as a spray in Heroes of the Storm.Ganymede's species is on a picture hanging in the hunting lodge in Eichenwalde.The animation for Ganymede in The Last Bastion was modeled after Tikka, the pet parrot of Blizzard artist Kimberly LeCrone.Ganymede is a figure from Greek mythology, and the namesake of one of Jupiter's moons.Ganymede often used Torbjörn's beard as a nest, much to the engineer's annoyance. Ganymede remained with Bastion after it joined Torbjörn Lindholm. With the bird's offering of a twig to rebuild its nest, Bastion snapped out of its destructive programming and returned to the forest. Ganymede survived, however, and later caught up with Bastion as it was marching towards Stuttgart. The nest was destroyed and Ganymede was nowhere to be seen, likely leading Bastion to believe that he had been killed. Ganymede followed Bastion as it traveled through the forest until the gunfire-like sound of a woodpecker caused the omnic to reconfigure into combat mode, using its minigun to blast the surrounding forest with gunfire. Ganymede was building a nest on the shoulder of a fallen Bastion unit when he inadvertently reactivated it.
